The Porsche 911 'Carrera 3.0' has a very special place in the history of the Porsche 911, as it brought together elements from two of Porsche's most legendary cars. It represented the latest incarnation of the Porsche Carrera, the Carrera 3's 2993cc engine used the same die-cast aluminium crankcase as its awesome cousin, the newly introduced Porsche 930 or '911 Turbo. It was sold between 1976-1977 - built between two other models in the
911 line up: the standard 911 and the 911/930 Turbo.
During its short two-year life span, only 3687 cars were built. Of these 2564 were coupes.
The AllSport [AS004] Carrera 3.0's VIN is 911 660
0802 meaning it's the 802nd car made from a total of 3687 cars, world-wide. AllSport is a specialist parts supplier for Classic Porsches with decades-years' experience with early 911s and, uniquely, has all of the parts and the specialist skills need to build these unique and special 911s.
AllSport's vast array of original Porsche 911 parts means AS004 preserves as many period- correct parts as possible, providing the best of both worlds... the feel and excitement of a traditional 911 combined with improved performance and modern reliability. AS004 also retains its original LHD design, just as the Porsche factory intended, which also increasing its value for international markets.
NB: speedometer was changed from MPH to KPH and reset to zero arter the restoration & initial 1000km run-in period.
Special Engine
AS004 uses a fully-rebuild, period correct, Porsche 3.0 air cooled engine that thanks to the inclusion of modern technology and computerisation, has both a significantly increased horse power and improved reliability. Horse Power is up from 200 to over 250HP and is smoothly delivered - just like a traditional air cooled 911 engine should be - without the need for wild-cams or a turbo charger.
Special parts used to achieve these engine improvements include:
High Compression Mahle Pistons (9.3 to 1)
• 964 Camshafts
3.2 Chain Tensioners
Open intake ports
• 6 Individual Throttle Body Injectors
6 Individual Coil Sticks
Computer controlled by MegaSquirt EFI
management system
SSI heat exchange with a 2-into-1
exhaust system
Carbon Fibre Air Box
Twin Oxygen sensors
Gear Box
AS004 uses a period correct refurbished 915 5-speed gear box to preserve the traditional feel of driving an early air-cooled 911.
Suspension, Brake & Wheels
StuttCars: "The car was also incredibly safe, the front and rear anti-roll bars reducing body roll and improving stability, and the 282mm front and 290mm rear disc brakes managing to stop the car in record times." AS004 is also equipped with Bilstein shock absorbers and beautiful new 16-inch Fuchs style alloy wheels with satin and black finish.
Bodywork and Interior
AS004 is presented in floorless mirror-finish Porsche Continental Orange paintwork with a factory sunroof and RSR-style duck tail. The interior is finished in new black carpets and black upholstery with unique orange tartan seat inserts, specially sourced from a secret supply reserved for the iconic 1970-1978s Melbourne Trams.
